Professional Development: Active Minds Chapters is a network of 500+ peer-led, diverse mental health advocacy groups focused on promoting positive social change, education, advocacy, and a mentally healthier future. These chapters are initiated and led by youth and young adults for youth and young adults, providing a consistent form of connection to peers, mental health as a movement, and Active Minds. During this presentation, Active Minds National Staff Members will discuss how Chapters offer a sense of belonging, inclusivity, and community while intentionally cultivating mental health changemakers within their communities. The presenters will also briefly touch on other programmatic opportunities that Active Minds can offer.

Ivy Henson: Ivy (she/her/hers), Manager of Chapter Mobilization and Engagement, comes to Active Minds with a non-profit and mental health background. As an undergraduate student, she co-founded The Every Voice Coalition, a non-profit working to reduce rates of gender-based violence on college and university campuses, and, since then, has worked in psychiatric research and as a therapist who specialized in trauma informed and intersectional therapy. Ivy fully believes in the importance of prioritizing accessible and inclusive mental health care and discussions. She is a big supporter of holistic advocacy for others, and for the self, and is looking forward to supporting student advocates. Ivy holds a B.S. in Psychology from Northeastern University and a M.A. in Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine from Boston University.

Mia Zaleski, Program Associate for Active Minds’ Chapter Registration and Onboarding, is a dedicated professional with a strong background in public health and health communications. She holds a B.S. in Public Health from The College of New Jersey and an M.S. in Health Communications from Boston University. With four years of experience in higher education, Mia is passionate about supporting the journey of newly registered chapters and aiding the ongoing efforts of existing chapters to become mental health advocates within their campus community.

Connect, Share, and Innovate

Our CHASCo Chat Series offers an opportunity for members to exchange ideas and connect with AOD professionals across the state. Modeled after the water cooler chats initiated by the Higher Education Center in 2020, these sessions are exclusively for CHASCo members.
