Campus Overdose Prevention & Response Project

CHASCO has received funding from the Opioid Abatement Council to support our campuses in developing the infrastructure necessary to provide overdose education and response materials to their campus communities.

NATIONALLY

With overdose numbers continuing to rise across the country, the Biden Administration and the Department of Education called on schools, colleges, and universities to have opioid overdose reversal medications on-site and to ensure that students and employees are prepared to use these medications to save a life on campus and within their larger community.

LOCALLY

In 2022, a total of 3,826 Tennesseans died of a drug overdose. According to the Department of Health, TN has seen overdose numbers increase since 2018.

Assistance CHASCo can provide with this funding:

We are partnering with SAFE Campuses to provide technical assistance to our campuses for building the infrastructure needed to provide effective overdose education and to distribute naloxone and testing strips. We currently have 16 campuses participating and we plan to offer this opportunity again in the upcoming year.

Technical Assistance

Overdose Education & Materials

We have received funding to develop overdose education materials tailored to a campus setting. We will work with campuses, students, and local experts to develop these materials over the next year.

Naloxone & Testing Strips

We have received funding to provide naloxone and testing strips to our campuses at no cost.

Getting Started!

Our partners at SAFE Campuses have developed a checklist of the basic building blocks of an effective prevention and response strategy. It is recommended to use this list as a starting point.
